POULTRY PRODUCTION.

Oman Flour Mills, in concert with the United Arab Emirates based IFFCO Group of Companies, have entered into a joint venture, to operate a breeding farm for poultry in the country.

The idea is to become self sufficient in poultry, from hatcheries to fattening and processing.

The head of the new project, Ajay Rampai, said "there is a very strong potential for this new project".

The initial plans are to set up for a layer farm with 102 million laying hens, this will guarantee 50,000 chickens per day for slaughter. The facility will be complemented with a hatchery that will produce 50 million chicks per year.


The plan is two fold, first for commercial egg production, secondly eggs for the hatchery to be fattened for chicken meat..

In Oman, the consumption per capita is 150 eggs per year and 30 kg of chicken meat.

While in the United Arab Emirates, the consumption is per capita, 300 eggs per year and 40 kg of chicken meat.

The broiler farm with then produce 50,000 chickens per day for slaughter, while the farm also produces 5 million eggs per week.

This will be the largest complete poultry operation in the Middle East
