Solar PV exceeds farmers expectations

Two years on from a completed solar panel installation on Bentley Grange Farm in March 2013, we hear from farmer Chris Moorhouse on how the solar system has exceeded expectations.

The Moorhouse family have farmed at Bentley Grange since 1889. The different generations have adapted their skills to a wide range of agricultural activities. Today, the Farm has an established soft fruit enterprise that started in the late 70s, plus a successful animal and pet food shop since the mid 1980s.

Two years ago, Norcroft Energy installed a 10kW solar pv system. They upgraded the 3 phase supply to the barn so they were able to connect the solar system. They then installed 40 Romag, UK manufactured panels on a south facing roof.

The Farm is run by Chris Moorhouse who is the fourth generation of the family to take charge. Commenting on the installation, Chris said, “I wanted to generate my own electricity with solar panels to help protect the Farm against increasing electricity costs. I chose Norcroft as I have known Philip for a long time and knew he would do a good job. I dislike pressure sales techniques used by some in the industry and knew I could take Philip at his word.”

The solar system has now been running for two years and the Farm has been benefitting from much lower operating costs.

Chris added, “The solar system is running even better than predicted. It has generated more than the 7950Kw predication per year. I would be happy to recommend Norcroft Energy, and often do.”

Bentley Grange joins a number of Farms in South Yorkshire that have turned to the sun to generate their own energy. With daily costs of living getting higher and higher, many more are likely to follow suit and look at ways to save on their electricity bills.
