Auctioneers Halls conducted a successful sale of 250 store cattle on behalf of the Bishops Castle & District Quality Cattle Association at Bishops Castle Auction on Thursday last week.
The good entry of super cattle sold to a large number of purchasers who ensured that the trade achieved and often exceeded most vendors’ expectations. Vendors will be hoping the fat trade strengthens to enable purchasers to return next year.
Overall steers averaged 261p per kilo and £1,017 per head with highs of 334p per kilo and £1,320 per head for a Limousin from I. E. & M. Gittins, Lower Ucheldre.
Heifers averaged 238p per kilo and £905 per head to a maximum of 364p per kilo for a Limousin from B. L. and J. E. Griffiths, Lower Penygelli and £1,240 for a Limousin from D. W. and L. E. Morgan, Lower House.
Other leading prices were: Steers: Blonde cross: 264p per kilo and £1,030 per head for two 390 kilo steers from Messrs F. J. Owens and Co, Llettygynfach. British Blue cross: 296p per kilo for two 355 kilo steers from Messrs W. R. B. Jones, Brynawelon and £1,230 for a 480 kilo steer from Messrs I. E. and Mr. Gittins, Lower Ucheldre. Charolais cross: 271p per kilo for 380 kilo steer from Messrs J. T. Lewis, Trawscoed and £1,140 for a 555 kilo steer from Messrs J. E. Williams and Son, Lake House. Simmental cross: 246p per kilo for a 350 kilo steer from Messrs H. W. Venables, Penygelly Farm. Limousin cross: 334p per kilo and £1,320 for a 395 kilo steer from Messrs I. E. and M. Gittins, Lower Ucheldre.
Heifers: Blonde cross: 305p per kilo and a 201 kilo heifer from Messrs C. J. Thomas, Ty Draw. British Blue cross: 295p per kilo for a 315 kilo heifer from Messrs A. Owen, Cwmbyr Bungalow and £1,140 per head for two 515 kilo heifers from the same vendor. Limousin cross: 364p per kilo for a 305 kilo heifer from Messrs B. L. and J. E. Griffiths, Lower Penygelli and £1,240 for a 500 kilo heifer from Messrs D. W. and L. E. Morgan, Lower House.
