Strong trade as Bishops Castle store cattle entries up on same time last year

An entry of 325 store cattle was up on the same time last year as auctioneers Halls reported an “extremely strong” trade at Bishops Castle Auction last Thursday, March 19 despite the negative beef price fluctuations.

A stronger show of older stronger cattle performed well with steers averaging 225p per kilo and £985 per head with highs of £1,280 for a 640 kilo Limousin from J. M. and A. Jones, Wig and 274p per kilo for a 375 kilo Limousin from O. and H. Moyle, Brynunty.

Heifers were not so far behind to average 210p per kilo with peaks of £1,190 for a 595 kilo Limousin cross from T. C. Harding and Co, Llwyngwyn and 264 per kilo for a pair of Blondes from G. Lloyd, Brynhyfryd.

A good entry of store bulls averaged 215p per kilo with leading prices of 234p, 230p and 228p per kilo for Limousins from Aston Hall Farms and 231p per kilo for two Charolais from D. W. Evans and Son, Ty Mawr.

Aberdeen Angus: £930 for four 480 kilo steers from Messrs S. Evans, The Green Farm. Welsh Black: £985 for a 520 kilo steer from Messrs W. D. & M. E. Parry, Caetwp. Hereford: £945 for a 490 kilo steer from Messrs M. A. Hughes & Sons, Lower Lea Farm and 225p per kilo for three 350 kilo steers from Messrs W. S. Turner & Sons, Stone Acton Farm. Charolais: £1,205 for two 625 kilo steers from Messrs M. J. & M. A. Williams, Twitchen Farm and 257p per kilo for four 370 kilo steers from Messrs C. P. Breese, Plasauduon. Hereford: £770 for a 470 kilo heifer from Messrs M. A. Hughes & Sons, Lower Lea Farm. Charolais: £785 for two 415 kilo heifers from Messrs C. P. Breese, Plasauduon and 215p per kilo for two 365 kilo heifers from the same vendor. Simmental: £770 per head and 237p per kilo for two 325 kilo heifers.

Limousin: £1,190 for a 595 kilo heifer from Messrs T. C. Harding & Co, Llwyngwyn and 255p per kilo for a 300 kilo heifer from Messrs A. J. & A. W. Waters, Castle Farm.
