Auctioneers Halls reported a strong trade throughout as 290 store cattle went under the hammer at Bishops Castle Auction on November 7.
With a good crowd of regular buyers around the ring, steers averaged 226p per kilo and £1,020 per head with a high of £1,430 for a 620 kilo Limousin from J. B. Sherry of Colebatch and 262p per kilo for a 390 kilo Limousin from E. G. and G. M. Trickey of Moat Farm.
Heifers averaged just a shade less than the steers at 217p per kilo and £901 per head with a high of £1,160 for 595 kilo Charolais from Edwards and Cooke, of Kempton and a fantastic 267p per kilo for a belting 345 kilo British Blue from M. P. Jones and Son, Trelerney.
Entries close on Thursday, November 14 for a special sale of calves and weanlings on November 21 at the market.
Leading prices for steers were: Charolais: £1,395 for a 600 kilo steer from Messrs G. H. and C. A. Jones & Son, Bryn Mawr and 258p per kilo for a 480 kilo steer from Mr C. C. Swancott, Weals House. Simmental: £1,025 a head and 218p per kilo for four 470 kilo steers from Messrs P. C. M. and N. M. Pugh, Bank Farm. Limousin: £1,430 for a 620 kilo steer from Mr J. B. Sherry, Fairview and 262p per kilo for a 390 kilo steer from Messrs E. G. and G. M. Trickey, Moat Farm. Blonde D’Aquitaine: £1,100 per head for two 460 kilo steers from Messrs C. A. and S. I. Blackman, Burfield Farm and 250p per kilo for a 330 kilo steer from Messrs R. S. Adams and Co, Foxholes. British Blue: £1,300 and 222p per kilo for a 585 kilo steer from Mr R. E. Morgan, Brynderw.
