The Search is on for the Milk Float of the Year

In celebration of more than 100 hundred years of tradition, the hunt is now on to find the best milk float in the land.

Since the 1900s milkmen have been using their delivery vehicles as mobile shop windows for their businesses. From hand cart, to horse and cart, and these days on electric and diesel vehicles, modern dairymen proudly continue this colourful industry tradition.

The Milk Float of The Year competition is all about celebrating the UK’s 5,000 milk floats, finding the best of the best. In undertaking this search Dairy UK can think of no better partner than Osborne Dairy Vehicles. Established in 1920, Essex based family company Osborne’s has been providing vehicles to the industry for as long as there have been self-propelled milk floats.

Edmund Proffitt of competition organisers Dairy UK says, "The milk float is an essential part our doorstep heritage and we are delighted to be celebrating this proud tradition with this fun new award. We are asking milkmen up and down the country to send us photographs of their delivery vehicles. Independent judges will then select this year’s winner".

Apart from the much sought after title, the operator of the nation’s Milk Float Of The Year will receive a trophy and a cash prize.
