UK worker of the year winner in elite group after combine harvester run

Littlebredy-based farmer Judi James, who was crowned UK Worker of the Year back in 2013, has finished in the top 5% of fund-raising activities in the country, after her combine harvester run in 2014.

After winning the national competition UK Worker of the Year, set up by globally-recognised workwear brand Dickies, Judi took on her dream of driving a combine harvester from London to her home in Littlebredy in Dorchester.

After setting up her Just Giving page, Judi found that her initiative was being backed by hundreds of people across the country. Judi set out on her combine harvester from Wimbledon, taking three days to eventually reach her home in Littlebredy, where she was welcomed with a hero’s reception.

Judi, who was raising money her Breast Cancer Campaign, said: “I’m delighted to have been told that the combine harvester run put me in the top 5% of fund-raisers for 2014. I never really thought I would go ahead with my ‘mad’ idea, but winning the UK Worker of the Year competition gave me the confidence to go ahead with it. I cannot thank Dickies enough for the recognition they have given me.”

Judi has become an ambassador for the UK Worker of the Year competition, and found herself on the judging panel last year, helping crown the 2014 winner. The Dorset-based farmer is also currently in talks regarding a possible machinery sponsor for 2016.

Maurice Morton, sales and marketing director at Dickies, commented: “Judi has been a fantastic winner of the UK Worker of the Year competition, going on to use the prestigious title to achieve more in the agricultural sector. It was great to have her on the judging panel last year and we look forward to working closely with her moving forward.”

Dickies has announced that the 2015 competition will officially launch at at the first MCE British Superbike race meeting at Donington Park over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
