United Nations-Forecasts of tough times for farmers.
UNITED NATIONS-CONERNS OVER THE FUTURE.
Tighter credit amid the global financial crisis could make it
harder for farmers to expand production, increasing chances for a repeat of
last year’s soaring food prices, the head of the United Nations’ food agency
warned. Speaking to reporters at a biennial U.N. food-policy conference in
Bangkok, Jacques Diouf, director-general of the U.N.’s Food and Agriculture
Organization, said the number of undernourished people world-wide continues to
rise, despite a recent decline in food prices.
