Welsh farmers welcome Minister’s Tir Mynydd decision
Welsh farmers have welcomed the Minister’s announcement that farmers who receive a Tir Mynydd payment in 2011 will be eligible to apply for a full payment in 2012.
Mr Bailey, NFU Cymru President, said, "At yesterday’s meeting I strongly advocated that the Tir Mynydd payment should be paid at current rates in 2012 and not reduced to 60%. I am very pleased that the Minister has recognised the validity of our concerns and has acted swiftly to reassure farmers in the Less Favoured Area (LFA) that their Tir Mynydd payments will not be significantly reduced in 2012 whilst the detail of Glastir is being re-appraised by the independent review group.
"The announcement that all eligible Tir Mynydd farmers will receive 100% of the payment rate per eligible hectare in 2012 will provide a breathing space whilst Glastir is being made fit for purpose. This will help to prop up confidence in the LFA."
