Wessex Grain buys haulage business

Wessex Grain has purchased the assets of John Budge haulage. The business will be a 100% subsidiary of Wessex Grain.

John and Vera Budge established their business in Thorney, Somerset in 1981, and built up a strong reputation for reliability and service. They have a number of long-standing clients and it is Wessex Grain’s intention that the new business will continue to work hard to look after all their key customers.

Commenting on the sale, John Budge said: “After so many years it was a difficult decision for us to decide to sell. However, we are very pleased that Wessex Grain is taking on the business and keeping all the drivers employed.”

Simon Wilcox, Wessex Grain’s Managing Director, added: “We are very pleased with the acquisition as it ensures that the haulage fleet is retained within our sector. We feel there will be a real opportunity to further develop the business from its sound and established base. It will in turn assist Wessex Grain to enhance the service it offers to its farmers by rapidly moving grain, particularly at harvest.”

Wessex Grain will continue to work with all its regular hauliers. However, this acquisition will enable it to have additional vehicles at its disposal, particularly at peak times and will be a real asset as the business continues to grow and the tonnage traded increases.
