Free-range eggs from Thirsk based, family-run James Potter Yorkshire Free Range Eggs, one of the UK’s pioneering producers of free-range eggs, will go on sale this month in 83 Co-operative food stores across Yorkshire.

The 83 Co-operative food stores stocking the medium and large free range eggs cover the whole of Yorkshire, from Sheffield to Richmond and Bingley to Whitby.

The listing will also provide a great boost to Yorkshire Air Ambulance, to which the company donates 1p from every dozen box of its eggs sold. As such, going on sale in 83 stores should raise an extra £1,000 per year, adding to the £40,000 already raised to date for the charity, which provides life saving rapid response emergency services to five million people across Yorkshire.

Adrian Potter, Yorkshire Farmhouse Eggs director said:

“This is great news for the business and for the profile of our ever-growing brand in Yorkshire.

“We take real pride in our family business and our eggs, so we’re delighted that the Co-operative is supporting Yorkshire producers; especially as they are so passionate about animal welfare and were one of the first retailers to use only free-range eggs in all their own-brand products.

“Our hens have the run of acres of outdoor space on our farm in North Yorkshire, with plenty of tree cover for them to display their natural behaviour. We hope that Co-operative customers can really identify with where their eggs are coming from and of course appreciate the quality and taste!”

Kate Jones, Head of Local Sourcing, said:

“Our customers have told us they want to buy local products at their Co-op store and so we have responded by teaming up with more than 50 new Yorkshire suppliers.

"Products made in the vicinity of our stores are prized by customers who want to support locally produced regional food which often helps to define a specific area such as Yorkshire.

“Our unique local sourcing initiative has been designed to break down the barriers which have previously made it difficult for small companies to supply large national organisations.

"Our vision is to champion a better way of doing business for you and your communities and what better way for us to do this than to sell as many locally produced goods as possible."

James Potter Yorkshire Free Range Eggs has been producing, packing and marketing free-range eggs for more than 30 years. The company has seen the volume of free-range eggs it handles increase by 55 per cent in the past five years. Combining traditional animal husbandry with innovation, the company is currently investing in a state-of-the art on-farm Packing Centre and a new egg grader, with a capacity to handle 126,000 eggs per hour and the latest ‘self-cleaning’ hygiene modules and robotic egg handling.
