Turnalt Farm consists of some 3500 acres. 100 acres of this is good level arable land which forms the bottom of a 'U' shaped Glen. As well as the arable land which lies at 100 feet above sea level, there are 5 hills, the highest of which is 'Turnalt' which rises to 1200 feet. The other hills are Lagandarroch, Arichuan, Clachaig and Grianaig. Duchra is a further hill which is ground that is rented from the forestry commission. Each of the hills are grazed by a hirsel (flock) of Blackface ewes.

Machrihanish has a renowned 18 hole links and a nine hole ladies course. It also has one of the best opening holes in golf according to many who know and when you face the drive across the bay, you'll know. The course is 6,225 yards in total and features eight par fours and just one par three on the inward nine with two par fives just over 500 yards each and three par threes on the outward half. The outward nine follow the hills and hollows among the dunes with the sea and the sandy beach alongside that 428 yard opening hole. The inward nine has the backdrop of the Kintyre hills. A truly memorable course.
