Dairy bucks falls in global food prices

Dairy prices have bucked broad falls in global food prices as demand from south-east Asia continues to rise, but the benefit to Australian and New Zealand dairy companies will be limited as production heads north.

The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United States Food Price Index dropped for the first time in three months in January, but the FAO Dairy Price Index rose for the third month in a row. However, it comes as seasonal production begins shifting from the southern to the northern hemisphere, limiting supplies and helping prices.
