Dalits seek loans for pig farming

DALTONGANJ: Dalit families in Palamu's Paton block has sought support from nationalized banks to start pig farming. The residents of Huru Hansa village, which is among the 60 maha dalit hamlets in Naudeeha panchayat, feel that pig farming and proper marketing initiatives can change the face of economy here.

Many like Amardeep Bhuiyan (44) have experience in pig farming but could not start independent business due to lack of funds. Pork is sold at Rs 100 a kg in the remote dalit villages where the meat is an important part of weekly diet.
