Falling dairy prices to hit trade figures

A run of trade surpluses may have hit its peak, with falling world dairy product prices expected to show through as soon as the next monthly trade figures, economists say.

New Zealand ran a lower than expected trade surplus of $534 million in April, as dairy and meat export volumes fell.

Dairy product exports dropped between March and April this year, taking overall exports down 6.5 per cent to $4.5 billion, according to Statistics NZ figures out yesterday.
