Farmers asked to embrace synthetic fertilizers

The ministry of agriculture animal industry and fisheries has warned small scale farmers against depending on organic fertilizers as the main source of nutrients for food crops.

Addressing the 6th Nitrogen conference at Speke resort Munyonyo, commissioner for agriculture in charge of fertilizers, Komayombi Bulegeya said the practice was failing farmers from producing more for the growing population.

He said currently Uganda only produces 30% of the total crop yield which he said is not enough. Uganda’s population now standsat 34 million.
