Fukushima town continues with rice shipments

Hirono, Fukushima made history as of October 9th when the decision to sell rice in the once emergency evacuation zone was approved. Since the declaration was lifted in September, farmers in particular can breathe a sigh of relief as the trust from their neighbors have been restored as well as an increase in profit.

After refusing voluntary suspension, a farming couple, Ryohei Nitsuma, 53, and his wife Masae, 54, was relieved to exceed the standards of the central government. The couple presented 80 bags of “koshihikari” rice and passed the radioactive screening test with no problem.
