Japanese visitors learn about local agriculture

Local agricultural ambassadors over the weekend hosted eight visitors from Japan invited to the United States under the auspices of the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program in Galt, California.

Their specific objectives for the trip included an introduction of U.S. policies on international trade, sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship and consumer health and safety; viewing examples of cutting-edge technologies used by local small businesses and farming operations; and learn about rural land management techniques such as how biotech crops, residual pesticides and food irradiation are handled in the United States, according to Frank Gayaldo, who helped organize the trip.
