Livestock disease means strict new rules for fair animals

A livestock disease outbreak in New Mexico has sparked tougher restrictions — and prompted a few figurative headaches — for Doña Ana County residents competing in county and state fairs.

The virus, called vesicular stomatitis, is contagious among livestock, officials said. So far, it's only impacted horses in pockets around the state, but other large livestock are susceptible, as well.
