Over €12.5bn committed to agriculture over the next seven years

The government has announced €12.5 billion of funding for the agricultural sector over the next seven years.

Most of the funding comes from the EU’s new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), which Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney helped negotiate during Ireland’s EU presidency last year.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny said today “at a time of scarce resources” it represents the government’s commitments to rural communities, with Coveney adding: “I hope nobody can doubt this government’s commitment to the sector for the foreseeable future.”
