Poor farmers 'face worst crisis since foot-and-mouth'

Environmental factors such as poor harvests, the spread of TB, summer downpours and flooding, combined with the harsh economic climate, have created a “perfect storm” for those working in the sector.

The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution said this year it was paying out twice as much in emergency grants as it did last year.
