Poultry farmers worry about propane supply as cold weather hits

Alabama’s billion-dollar poultry industry is bracing for freezing weather at a time when propane is in short supply and facing major transportation issues.

Members of the Alabama Farmers Federation staff participated in a conference call Monday with elected officials and representatives of the propane industry.

Below-freezing temperatures are expected several nights this week. The probability of icy road conditions in some areas of the state is compounding delivery problems for the propane industry. Farmers are concerned propane needed to keep their flocks warm will run out before they can be refilled.
