Poultry producer Astral Foods feels the heat
When it rains it pours for poultry producer Astral Foods, which the Competition Commission has slapped with a fine of almost R17m for anti-competitive behaviour.
The fine is 3% of the revenue of its Western Cape subsidiary Country Fair. The company further admitted its Elite joint venture had undermined Country Bird’s ability to compete. Elite was a joint venture between Astral and Country Bird at the time.
