Russia poultry ban not ruffling Delaware's feathers

Few feathers have ruffled locally in the wake of a Russian decree banning imports of American poultry and other agricultural products, with the prospect drawing mostly shrugs across Delaware's largest farm industry.

"Russia takes these kinds of action periodically. It has as much or more to do with politics than with food safety issues," said Delaware Agriculture Secretary Ed Kee.

"We export significantly less chicken to Russia than we did a decade ago, and the general feeling is that our companies can divert poultry that would be going to Russia to other markets, domestic or international," Kee said.
