Shortage of extension services hurts goat milk production
Dairy goat farming has been hit hard by lack of training for farmers and this is likely to reduce milk production, a Dairy Goat Association of Kenya official has said.
The Nyeri branch assistant officer Moses Karuga said few farmers know the benefits of goat farming and the shortage of agricultural extension officers has slowed down the promising sector.
“Lack of awareness is discouraging many, leading them to invest in other farming activities,” says Mr Kiruga, whose association brings together farmers who own Kenya Alpine goats also known as German Alpine goats, which are known for producing high quality milk.
