State should consider settlement with Tatas
Agriculture minister Rabindranath Bhattacharya today said that the government needs to explore all options to resolve the Singur land impasse, including out-of-court settlement with the Tatas.
Bhattacharya, the MLA from Singur, said he personally felt that the government should settle with the Tatas, but no decision had been taken yet.
“There is no reason why one should not come to an understanding with the Tatas,” he said. “We had said this before... they (Tatas) do their work on 600 acres and return 400 acres to the farmers. Our fight is not with the Tatas. Our purpose is to protect the interests of the affected farmers.”
