Tempers boil over in milk war between dairy giant and competition watchdog

A dispute over pricing practices by Finland’s largest dairy company Valio looks set to continue in the public domain, even after a ruling by the Market Court. On Tuesday Valio took offence at an op-ed piece on the website of the Competition and Consumer Authority. For its part the competition watchdog says it has not blackballed the company.

There’s a lot of water under the bridge between dairy company Valio and the Competition and Consumer Authority (KKV). The current sour relationship can be traced back to 2012, when the competition watchdog slapped Valio with a 70 million euro fine for under pricing its milk products, allegedly in a bid to squeeze out Swedish-Danish competitor Arla Ingman.
