Teys calls for greater IR reform

One of Australia's largest beef ­processors says the federal government must tackle industrial relations reform or risk the closure of more ­manufacturing industries.

Teys Australia, which was involved in a bitter industrial dispute during last year's federal election, employs more than 4500 people in Queensland, NSW and South Australia.

Teys's general manager of corporate affairs, Tom Maguire, said despite employees at the company's plant in Beenleigh, south of Brisbane, voting to approve a workplace agreement, the Australasian Meat Industry Employees Union had obstructed the deal and mounted continuous appeals.
