Tuberculosis found in Oliver County dairy heifer

State veterinarians have found the first case of tuberculosis in a dairy heifer in North Dakota since 1999.

The U.S. Veterinary Service Laboratory in Ames, Iowa, confirmed the diagnosis in the heifer.

North Dakota State Veterinarian Susan Keller said state and federal veterinarians are investigating the case. It was found in the non-lactating heifer when the owner agreed to have the herd tested after an employee tested positive for mycobacterium tuberculosis complex.
