Variety of markets emerging for heavy northern cattle

Indonesia's plan to import more slaughter cattle this year, along with extra demand from Vietnam and a new abattoir being built near Darwin, is taking the pressure off a lot of northern cattle producers this wet season.

Over the last few years, the northern cattle industry's main market, Indonesia, has only taken cattle under 350 kilograms, and although that weight limit still applies for feeders, the additional demand for heavy slaughter animals means producers don't have to worry about cattle getting too fat.
