Young farmers bucking the trend with a commitment to agriculture

A love of the land is something many producers look forward to passing onto their children. But increasingly fewer young people are taking the opportunity to continue the family business.

As the workforce in the agriculture industry continues to age, a number of young people in central Queensland are bucking the trend to take on the family farm.

In 2011, Australian Bureau of Statistics figures showed the average age of a farmer was 53 and almost a quarter of the workforce was aged over 65.
