The show usually refered to as Haigh Show is correctly titled Haigh, Aspull & Blackrod Agricultural Show.
The label agricultural is perhaps a little misleading since the competitions taking place on show day are open to EVERYONE. Ok not everyone can lay their hands on a cow or sheep, but you would be surprised, at least in the sheep section, as to how few of the exhibitors are actually farmers, but take a look in the horticultural section schedule and most people with a small garden, or a patio of pot plants could find or better still aim to have something that can be entered. Many of the poultry exhibits come from enthusiasts who keep chickens on an allotment and the same is probably true of the rabbit section also. How many of you go to evening classes to develop skills such as needlework, photography, baking, drawing and painting? All of these, and many more, are catered for and the show is much more enjoyable if you are exhibiting something and you could take home a trophy.
