Welcome to your Show! The Horbury Show is always on the last Sunday in June. For over 30 years the Show has been a major event in the Wakefield District calendar. 2013 will be the 17th year in which the Rotary Club of Horbury & Ossett Phoenix have organised (and expanded) the Show at Carr Lodge Park in the centre of Horbury.

The Show regularly attracts several thousand people from Wakefield, Horbury, Ossett, Netherton and surrounding districts. We offer free entrance to all visitors (although we do ask for donations for parking) and all the Rotary Club profits go to local charitable causes. Phoenix Rotary Club is not a commercial organisation, we don't have funds of our own and therefore could not run the Show without the help and financial assistance of our sponsors and supporters – but most importantly the public who turn up on the day.

The 2012 show welcomed the return of the amazing Colourscape display; a new Birds of Prey display; the first Horbury Show Strongman competition (including Car Lift and other activities); Faceless Community Arts will be with us for the first time providing arts workshops for children and young adults.

In addition to our established catering suppliers, 2012 saw the introduction of a Real Ale bar in the Marquee run by the Cricketers Arms of Horbury. The Show also had Majorettes; Cheerleaders; Wildcat Dolls and Kittens; Dry Stone walling and Wood Turning displays; Horbury Victoria Brass Band; Fairground attractions; Punch and Judy shows; Classic Cars and Motorcycles; Information, Charity and Commercial stalls and much more. (see the 2012 Attractions Page for details). We had thought we would not be able to provide any dog show in 2012 as the members of PADS who have so ably organised this on our behalf are now unable to do so – and we would like to place on record our gratitude and thanks to the members of PADS for all their hard work on our (and your) behalf. However, thanks to our exhibitors Mypetstop stepping in to help there was be a FUN DOG SHOW at the Horbury Show – see the Dog Show page for more information.

We run the Show to raise money for the local causes which our Rotary Club supports but our other main aim is to make the Show a family interactive event - so that there are plenty of opportunities for young and old alike to take part in events and displays and to be entertained and informed. We welcome new ideas from the public so why not contact us via the link or check us out on Facebook.

For the 2012 Show, Pentagon Hyundai of Horbury Bridge was our main show sponsor for the second year and we are very grateful to them. In addition Richard Kendall, Estate Agent - the leading sales and letting agent in the Wakefield area (who have prominent offices in Horbury - and in Ossett) and Go Outdoors – the UK’s biggest outdoor stores again supporting us. We are grateful to them and to the other supporters who are listed to the right of this page.

We continue to receive strong support from all three of our local Councillors, as well as from members of StreetScene Services and the Community Chest at Wakefield MDC – please see www.wakefield.gov.uk/communitychhest for details of how they may be able to help your organisation. In addition the owners of businesses based in Horbury, Ossett and outside the area also support the Horbury Show especially O'Neills Transport at Horbury Junction. All of their respective contributions are invaluable to us - so please follow the links to their websites.

UK Dairy Day, an exciting new dairy farming trade event, will be launched next year on Wednesday 17th Shropshire, a dynamic exhibition location with over 10,000m2 of exhibition space under one roof.

The announcement of UK Dairy Day will once again provide UK dairy farmers with an industry-specific national autumn event. The organiser of UK Dairy Day is Holstein UK, whose Chairman, Cheshire dairy farmer John Edge, commented,” UK Dairy Day will be a departure from the cattle shows we’ve organised in the past as the event will focus on all aspects of milk production, from milk buyers and feeding through hygiene and breeding to management and financial advice.”

Plans for UK Dairy Day are still being developed but the initial reaction from the industry is very supportive. Managing Director of NWF David Warrington said, “We are excited at the introduction of UK Dairy Day, which gives the dairy industry a focussed event at an important time of year when decisions are being made about winter feeding requirements. The location utilises a leading exhibition centre, with easy access to draw dairy farmers from some of the leading dairy producing counties. UK Dairy Day will offer exhibitors an event to network specifically with dairy farmers to showcase their products, services and expertise”.
