$2.5m for drought stricken farmers

The Tasmanian Government has announced a $2.5 million package to help drought-affected farmers.

The Premier and the Primary Industries and Water Minister toured a number of farms in the Midlands last week.

Under the funding package, eligible farmers will receive up to $5,000 to help buy stock feed over the coming winter.

$350,000 will also be given to various community programs to help drought affected communities deal with the flow on effects of the continuing dry.

Some of that money will go to the Country Womens Association which has been distributing small cash grants to farming families to pay for food, rates, electricity and telephone bills.
