Agricultural Emphasis Stronger than ever at the Great Yorkshire Show
Space let to trade stands for the Great Yorkshire Show is at an all time high, organisers the Yorkshire Agricultural Society have announced.
Figures for the 2004 event show that a total of 65,332 square metres have been let, compared to last year's 63,127, and there is an increase in the number of agricultural stands.
Show Director Christopher Hall said: "The Show is seen as an excellent place to do business which is borne out by the strong support we receive from our trade stand exhibitors. Demand for space is always high, and we do still have a waiting list, but we were able to offer more space by making better use of the area we have. It is particularly pleasing to see the increase in agricultural related stands – they now number 58% of the total area."
He continued: "We are committed to ensuring that the Great Yorkshire Show remains an agricultural show and is an important platform for the industry."
The event, which runs from Tuesday 13 – Thursday 15 July at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, includes new exhibitors as well as many of the regular supporters.
The 18 newcomers in the agricultural sector range from Cattle Tech Ltd (veterinary services for fertility diagnosis and treatment), to Farmstar from Market Weighton in East Yorkshire to farm building suppliers, Eternit.
"Space sold very quickly and has all been allocated. However, there are occasions where businesses need to cancel so changes do occur. It is important to keep a broad mix of stands and we are always happy to talk to good quality exhibitors, particularly those from the agricultural sector," said Mr Hall.
Headlining the show this year is The Musical Drive by The Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery sponsored by estate agents, Dacre, Son & Hartley. Livestock remains at the heart of the show with the cattle parade being one of the programme's major features. The Yorkshire Agricultural Society is a staunch supporter of regional food and this year the Food Hall will largely be taken by deliciouslyorkshire showcasing the county's finest fare, whilst around the showground, caterers are being encouraged to use local produce wherever possible.
Tickets on the gate cost £15 for adults with £11 for concessions and a Family Ticket (2 adults and 3 children) costs £40. There are savings on tickets purchased in advance. Parking is free and extensive but please note dogs are not allowed on the showground. The ticket hotline number is 01423 541222 or the general show telephone number is 01423 541000.
