FARMERS GOING BACK ON THE ROAD.

CARUP rural confederation Deputy Chairman Jorge Stodeg announced on Sunday, that they will stage two 2 day lockouts in February and again in March unless the government introduces changes to agricultural policies.

Meanwhile farmers in La Pampa already began protests over the weekend on Route 9 the main road into Buenos Aires. Demanding An immediate rescue package for farmers rather than tax concessions that are not ready cash.

Farming organizations are demanding that the government takes steps to revert the critical situation now facing farmers as this years crops have been hit by the worse drought in the history of Argentina.


La Pampa is one of the worse affected regions and the cost of the drought already runs into billions according to the government experts.

According to Stodeg, " the government keeps evading the issues and postponing a solution which shows their ineptitude and lack of will to solve the problem. Time goes by and the situation becomes more serious".

Farmers will already gain from one year without tax, that came into force on Friday and there is a promise of US$20 million for farmers in Santa Fe, according to Agricultural Secretary Carlos Cheppi in statement on Sunday.
