AUSTRALIA-MONEY FOR FLOOD DAMAGED FARMERS.

The Queensland Government is offering concessional loans and freight subsidies to help primary producers recover from the flooding in the north west.

Joint State-Commonwealth Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) have been activated to help primary producers in the Burke, Doomadgee, McKinlay, Carpentaria, Croydon and Etheridge local government areas.

Qld Primary Industries Minister Tim Mulherin said the concessional loans of up to $250,000 at a current interest rate of 4pc would assist eligible primary producers with carry-on needs, stock replacement and essential repairs.

"Freight subsidies up to 50pc of their total freight costs to a combined maximum of $5,000 (excluding GST) would also provide financial assistance to help primary producers transport necessary items to their flood affected properties for the purpose of assisting recovery," he said.

"Items for transport may include emergency fodder, building and fencing materials associated with primary production, machinery and equipment, water, and animals purchased for restocking."

"Many properties have been affected by the recent heavy rain and subsequent flooding, and we encourage producers to apply for the local assistance now available."

"Our DPI&F officers are also currently assessing the impact on primary industries on the east coast and monitoring the situation there.

"Producers outside the activated areas above may be eligible for assistance.

"However, they will need to obtain an Individual Disaster Stricken Property (IDSP) declaration for their property to be assessed for loan and/or freight subsidy assistance."

Closing dates: freight subsidy applications for fodder, building and fencing materials, machinery, equipment and restocking must be lodged within six months of the movement date.

Applications for the cartage of water are due within two months of the movement date.

* To apply for an IDSP declaration or freight subsidy, contact the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries on 13 25 23 or www.dpi.qld.gov.au.
