Australia-Pork trade picks up.
AUSTRALIA.
PORK TRADE BOOMING.
The pork trade has come good again in Australia, with sows making US$550 each for good heavy breeding types.
The same sows were US$100 apiece two months ago.
Porkers are making US$240c/kg carcass weight, while bacon pigs are making US$230c/kg.
South Australian Farmers Federation, pork committee chairman Butch Moses, said "the price rise in pigs over the last two months has been nothing short of extraordinary".
Moses said, that high prices were needed, to put some confidence back into the industry, which has come out of its worse time in living memory.
The high prices of feed and fuel and the low consumer demand with low prices.
The low Australian dollar, has put an end to the large volumes of imported pork from Canada and Poland, that have flooded the market in recent years.
The trade normally falls off after the Xmas holiday, with the hottest months and people on summer holidays.
