Chairman of the environment agency re-appointed
Sir John Harman has been re-appointed for a second term as Chairman of the Environment Agency, Environment Minister Elliot Morley announced today.
Announcing the re-appointment Elliot Morley said:
"I am delighted that Sir John Harman has accepted my invitation to serve a second term as Chairman of the Environment Agency. The Agency plays a central role in protecting and enhancing the environment in England and Wales, and the Chairman's role is crucial in determining the strategic direction, inspiring the staff and ensuring that it discharges its statutory duties fully.
"In his first term Sir John has shown considerable devotion to the causes of the Environment and of Sustainable Development. The Agency is still a relatively young organisation made up of various pre-existing parts. Under his leadership it has been brought increasingly together into a truly focused body.
"I am sure that he will be equally effective in facing the challenges that will inevitably arise in his second term."
