Dairy debate highlights milk price threat
North West dairy farmers are putting low milk prices under the spotlight at a series of events organised by the WI.
The Great Milk Debate kicks off in April 2007 and includes a number of meetings across the region.
The intention is to bring dairy farmers, milk processors and retailers together to debate the future of the industry and to show its importance to the rural community, economy, countryside and environment.
NFU North West regional director, Terry Abbott, said: "The NFU is devoting a considerable amount of time and effort towards achieving milk price increases and this joint campaign brings a double-barrelled approach.
"The WI, as a leading consumer lobby, can greatly assist dairy farmers in getting the message across to consumers and into the community.
"The enthusiasm of the WI branches to hold this debate is marvellous and we would also like to thank the farmers who are giving up their time to speak at the various events."
All the milk debate events are open public meetings so farmers, with or without a dairy interest, are welcome to attend.

Cumbria
· Bolton Memorial Hall (between Penrith and Appleby) on Tuesday 24 April at 7.30pm.
· Lamplugh WI Hall on Tuesday 24 April at 7.30pm.
· The Greenhill Hotel at Wigton on Thursday 26 April at 7.30pm
· Coronation Hall in Ulverston on Monday 30 April at 7pm.
Lancashire
· Downham Village Hall on Wednesday 25 April at 7pm.
· Bentham Town Hall on Thursday 26 April at 7pm.
Cheshire
· Northwich Shopping Centre on Saturday 28 April from 10am onwards.
· Whitley Village Hall on Tuesday May 1 at 7.30pm.
