Dairy farmers could reduce costs by up to 2ppl through more efficient feeding and nutrition, according to Adam Clay, DairyCo extension officer and feeding specialist.
Research, carried out by DairyCo"e;s economics team, analysed every cost that goes into producing a litre of milk for UK dairy farmers. This showed a marked difference in feeding costs between the most and least efficient producers and highlighted that many dairy farmers could make significant savings.

DairyCo"e;s new feeding+ campaign, designed and written by four highly respected nutrition specialists for DairyCo, builds on this research and covers all aspects of feeding and nutrition.
Mr Clay says: "With feeding+ DairyCo wants to engage with as many dairy farmers as possible with the aim of helping them achieve a real and significant improvement in their feed efficiency by the end of the campaign."
In addition to a folder of information, the comprehensive programme will be supported and delivered by a year long nationwide campaign of farmer meetings led by the DairyCo extension team.
feeding+ will be launched with a series of 11 regional meetings where farmers will be given an overview from feed specialists and vets of what they can learn when they join the campaign.
The feeding+ campaign will be the focus of DairyCo"e;s stand at this year"e;s Dairy Event and Livestock Show. Farmers can sign up for feeding+ by contacting Alix Bridges on 01285 646540, by emailing feeding@dairyco.org.uk or by contacting their local extension officer.
