Defra announces UK Chief Vet to retire
Dr. Debby Reynolds, the UK's Chief Veterinary Officer, has decided to take early retirement, according to a press release from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
Among others, having led the efforts to contain the outbreaks of foot and mouth disease this year, Dr. Reynolds has led the battle against a number of animal health issues that threatened the UK's livestock industry such as: incidences of avian influenza and bluetongue disease.
