EU opens its door to American poultry

The EU could end it's embargo later this year on American exports of chlorine treated poultry. The ban, introduced ten years ago on safety grounds, could be lifted by the summer if two scientific reports provide sufficient evidence that the meat is not harmful to humans. Whilst the US are trying to play down the volumes involved, around 16,000 tonnes, the potential for future imports of cheap poultry meat, using techniques and feed illegal in the EU, could have a significant impact on EU markets.
