Effects of new pesticides reviewed
A new report provides information on new pesticides under development and pesticides on the market, their efficacy, and how they can be used as part of control strategies, among other things. The report also deals with pesticide resistance.
Fungi, insects and weeds will not be given an easy time in Danish agricultural fields. A new report on pesticides published by the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Aarhus University, provides an overview of new pesticides – and describes their strengths and weaknesses. The wish is to provide information to advisors and farmers when they want to combat pests, diseases and weeds in their crops.
Pests ranging from pollen beetles, yellow rust, field poppies and Colorado beetles to fusarium, oat grass and chickweed are dealt with in the report – giving details on how they have been controlled in practice in the field. The findings of the report are mainly based in field trials but certain results also originate from laboratory studies and semi-field facilities.
The report describes the results of different control strategies including how specific organisms can be controlled as part of an integrated control strategy that involves both varieties and control thresholds, results of different spraying techniques and results of pesticide resistance.
The results from the many trials with the new products are also included in the annual update of the decision support system Crop Protection Online.
