BANANAS AND TARIFFS
Latin American counties supply 60 pc of the bananas that go into the UK and complain that the import tariffs are unfair and discriminate against Latin America.
Bananas grown in the EU, mostly in Spanish or French territory’s account for 20pc of the bananas in the EU, while the remaining 20pc is sourced from the Caribbean and Africa.
The import duty of bananas from Latin America is US$258 per ton.
