Exports Key to Success as Gaia-Wind Short Listed For Second Award

Glasgow based farmscale wind turbine manufacturers Gaia-Wind has backed the Industry call for reforms to the Feed in Tariff regime. RenewableUK (RUK) published their annual report on the small and medium wind industry which shows that exports have overtaken UK sales in the sector.

In 2014, 2,237 turbines were installed in the UK and 2,614 turbines were exported overseas. Over recent weeks Gaia-wind has

· Won the Scottish Green Energy Award for Exports;

· Achieved certification of its G-W133 turbine in Japan;

· Appointed its first reselling partner in Japan; and been

· Short listed for the Scottish Enterprise supported BQ 2015 Scottish Export Awards.

Gaia-Wind CEO Johnnie Andringa said:

“In the wake of UK Government policies which have almost crippled the UK farm scale wind industry market, Gaia-Wind, in common with our competitors, has looked to the world market to continue our growth.

“Our export focussed strategy has not only allowed us to increase sales overall by a projected 90% over 2013 but has enabled us to open or increase sales in, other markets including Italy, Denmark, the US, Australia, France and Israel. At 16,109 kilometres from our Glasgow manufacturing base, our turbine on Tonga sets the distance record for a Gaia-Wind export order and we are in discussions to increase the fleet on the island kingdom.”

Calling for the reinstatement of the 15kW Feed-in Tariff bracket, RUK warned of the potential for UK manufacturers to relocate abroad, saying:

“Government needs to ensure that a healthy balance is maintained in order to aid the long-term sustainability of the UK small and medium wind manufacturing industry.”
