FCTA Urged to Improve Agriculture
Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has been called upon to put more effort in agricultural development.
Speaking recently at the agricultural developers stakeholders' meeting organised to proffer solutions to the problems of the industry, the chairman of the stakeholders committee, Alhaji Yusuf Bala, said that agricultural development was the lead way to the attainment of the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals (MGDs) by the year 2015.
Bala pointed out that the role of agriculture in achieving the MDGs and economic development of FCT and the entire country, could not be over-emphasised, as daily activities depended on the quality of food consumed.
He expressed satisfaction that both the federal and state governments were trying to create different programmes to ensure they met the MDG's 2015 target.
He added that things could be better if only the economic policies of the country were directed to encourage and support the growth of the agricultural sector.
Although, he said, the petroleum sector had played a vital role in getting Nigeria where it is today, he urged that the oil boom had created more problems to the nation than benefits.
