Farmers debate hot topic

'How to manage climate change' will be discussed at the South of England Agricultural Society's annual Autumn Conference.

The conference, to be held at South of England Centre, Ardingly, on Tuesday 13 November, will explore how the farming community will be affected by the changing environment.

Speakers will include President of the NFU, Peter Kendall, and Professor Philip Stott, an ecologist based at the Department of Geography at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, who is an expert on climate change.

Conference organiser, Jeremy Burdett said: "We want farmers to understand the changing criteria for farming in the 21st century. What are we going to do about issues such as rising oil prices and water shortages? Basically it's brainfood."

He added: "A third speaker will be confirmed shortly – we hope an expert on energy. The environment is a really hot topic at the moment and farmers have such a vital role to play, so attendance is a must."

The conference will be held at 6.00pm in the Norfolk Pavilion. Entry is free but tickets must be booked in advance. To make your reservation apply to Elizabeth Cuff at the South of England Centre on 01444 892700 or email wiz@seas.org.uk
