Farmers to put forward views on CAP reform
Farmers in Clwyd are to get the opportunity to channel their views on Common Agricultural Policy Reform directly via NFU Cymru President Ed Bailey.

Mr Bailey will attend the next NFU Clwyd County meeting in Denbigh to hear members’ opinions regarding Welsh Government’s consultation on proposals for CAP reform published by the European Commission in October 2011. The consultation had also set out some initial conclusions reached by Welsh Government and farmers were asked to comment.
’
Welsh Government had made it clear that the consultation would not be a one-off exercise but part of an on-going process to stimulate and sustain dialogue for the coming few months.

Newly-elected Chairman of the Clwyd County branch Ivor Beech said, ’The consultation highlights the fact that a lot of the operational detail will not be known until the European Commission publishes draft implementation regulations, which NFU Cymru believes to be some months away from publication. CAP reform is the most important legislation that will affect the way we farm here in Wales for many years to come, so it is important that members attend this meeting to help our President get our message across.’

Mr Beech continued, ’There remain many outstanding issues which need to be addressed. The Welsh Government consultation has asked us for answers to a lot of questions about CAP reform but how will these ultimately be implemented?’

The NFU Cymru Clwyd County meeting will be held at Brookhouse Mill, Ruthin Road, Denbigh LL16 4RD on Monday 27 February, starting at 7.30pm.
