Fertiliser Market Report - 8th March 2013
Calum Findlay, Gleadell’s fertiliser manager, comments on fertiliser markets:
With improved weather conditions in the UK buyers are stepping into the market and require delivery of product as soon as possible.
Logistical problems regarding supply and deliveries are now a genuine concern with many suppliers now taking orders for April only.
Urea
The market remains stable although no clear direction is evident.
Shipments to the USA are slowing and producers look to move spot shipments to Europe.
Egyptian gas supply issues continue.
Ammonium nitrate/sulphur
Imported ammonium nitrate prices continue to firm in the UK as replacement values increase significantly.
GrowHow terms for March delivery have been withdrawn due to high levels of orders and limited stock. New April terms reflect the firming international market.
CAN prices continue to move up in Europe and strengthen on sales into Brazil, while ammonium sulphate values are holding firm.
Phosphates
Production cuts have helped to stabilise and turn the market around.
UK blenders continue to increase prices and are waiting for new shipments to arrive.
DAP and MAP values have firmed over $20/t this week.
Potash
Producers are holding firm on prices for April shipments and are looking to move values higher still.
Blenders in the UK have moved prices up to reflect higher replacement values.
Winter storms across central USA are stalling global demand, however buyers will re-emerge when field conditions improve.
